Campaign on the Universalization of the TPNW

To raise awareness about the TPNW, RTT Pacific has launched a project on the universalization of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. In the Pacific region, we believe that the TPNW is an extension of the Rarotonga Treaty. We will organize public awareness events, encourage youth to utilize creative arts to express themselves, and work closely with government officials.

Due to the interests amongst our members and our coordinators (Maverick and Corbin), we will first concentrate on the Solomon Islands. As we grow, we hope to organize and mobilize youth in other non-TPNW states to help convince their states to embrace this historic treaty.

Spotlight on the Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands has yet to sign or ratified the TPNW. RTT Solomon Islands and The Foreign Affairs Ministry are currently in consultation to develop a new cabinet paper for the new government of the Solomon Islands to ratify the TPNW.

Our Action Steps in the Solomon Islands

Conduct Monthly Updates and Information Sessions: We plan to hold regular monthly meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide updates on our activities related to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), with a particular focus on Articles 6 and 7.

Submission of Position Papers: We will submit detailed position papers to the government on various nuclear issues. The objective of these papers is to influence and shape government policies in the area of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

Increased Engagement with Youth Organizations: We aim to enhance our engagement with youth bodies. This will include expanding our online presence to build broader support and foster discussions among younger demographics.

More online engagement with RTT and  Solomon Islands Youths, to share lessons learned on campaigns.
